Traditional Chinese Medicine restores your body at a time when you need nourishing the most. Working alongside Traditional Chinese Medicine Dietary advice, nourishing and restoring maternal blood after birth is an essential part of any postnatal recovery programme.
Acupuncture treatment is suitable for all women and would ideally form part of the 40 days postpartum programme of care- or 'lunar month'.
Traditionally, the very early postpartum phase is a time of clearing before embarking on nourishing. If you still have bleeding following the birth of your baby, please contact me to discuss what and when treatment is suitable for you.
Acupuncture treatment includes an information sheet about restoring blood with your diet and improving milk supply.
Stress Incontinence
Around 40% of women suffer with Stress Incontinence / urine leakage after the birth of their baby, This condition affects vaginal births and c-section births alike. There is little that can be offered in standard care beyond Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor. Research shows that acupuncture treatment, especially if taken in the 6 weeks following the birth, can greatly reduce the leakage of urine, and improves the success of physiotherapy interventions.
Postnatal Depression and Good Mental Health
New mothers need time to adjust to the demands on their bodies, minds and lives, and all too often there is not enough focus on taking care of women at this time. Women find postpartum acupuncture to be useful where there are psychological adjustments and/ or postnatal depression, and see treatment to be supportive of this transition time.
